H&A Loose Diamonds

Take some carbon, put it under high temperature and high pressure, gather it from its source, cut it, polish it, and when it all comes together, you have a beautiful diamond! At H&A, you can hand select the diamonds for your jewelry with the guidance of our GIA trained staff.
You’ll find a wide variety of diamonds in various shapes and sizes. We’ll explain the nuances of the four “C’s”—Cut, Color, Clarity, and, of course, Carat weight. You’ll also have the benefit of a lab report from the most respected gem lab anywhere.
Diamond Specification Guide
Diamond Certification
GIA Diamond Grading Reports
There are many gem labs out there, but we feel that GIA is the most reliable, most consistent, and most accurate in their grading. Their reports are comprehensive, and backed by substantial research and educational divisions. If your diamond has a GIA report, you’ve just added significant value. H&A diamonds come with GIA reports.
Diamond Shape
H&A Diamond Shape Education
Diamonds are cut into many shapes, with the classic round cut as the most common. Cut styles usually fall into three types—brilliant, step-cut, or mixed. Brilliant cuts usually have 57 or 58 facets, and include round, heart, oval, marquise, and pear. Step cuts include emerald, Asscher, and baguette. Princess and radiant are considered mixed cuts.
Diamond Cut
H&A Cut Graded Diamonds
Cut is not just a description of the shape of the diamond. It also grades the proportions of the diamond. A diamond which is cut too deep or too shallow will not reflect light properly.
Diamond Carat
H&A Carat Graded Diamonds
Carat is a description of weight, equal to .2 grams, not to be confused with the purity of gold, which is described in karats. You may hear the term “points,” where 1/100 of a carat is one point. Twenty-five points equals ¼ct, fifty points equals ½ct, and so on.
Diamond Clarity
H&A Carat Graded Diamonds
Most diamonds have internal characteristics called inclusions. Some inclusions are more obvious than others. Inclusions will be less visible in a smaller diamond (like earrings) than in a larger diamond (like an engagement ring).
Diamond Color
H&A Color Graded Diamonds
The best diamonds have the least amount of yellow color. The exception to this rule is the diamond with exceptional yellow color, called Fancy. You’re likely going to want diamonds in the Colorless to Near Colorless range.
